Medical Student Education

Preparing future providers in the fields of mental health

The goal of the medical student education curriculum in psychiatry is to provide every graduating student at the University of Utah School of Medicine with the necessary understanding of human emotional and cognitive development, adult and child psychopathology, and biopsychosocial treatment modalities to assure the proper care of their patients suffering from mental illness.

Headshot of Paula Gibbs, MD
"Psychiatry and mental health impact all aspects of medicine and wellbeing. The Department of Psychiatry is vested in the education of medical students on how to provide competent and compassionate care to people with mental illness. The faculty, fellows, and residents share the same educational mission for the training of medical students."
Paula Gibbs, MD Phase 3 Director
