Message from the Idaho Chief Resident
Welcome to the University of Utah General Psychiatry Idaho Rural Track, a program designed for residents passionate about serving rural and underserved areas! Our mission is to cultivate the next generation of outstanding psychiatrists in Idaho by offering a comprehensive and immersive training experience. In the first two years of the program, you'll be based in Salt Lake City, UT, where you'll train in an academic setting and build a robust base in psychiatry, medicine, and neurology. The final two years of the program are spent in Pocatello, ID, where your training will focus on outpatient settings.
Our program offers an extensive network of unique collaborations with local healthcare providers, including Idaho State University’s Family Medicine Residency, Indian Health Services, and State Hospital South, to name a few. For more details about our wide array of rotation offerings, please explore other sections of our website! We'd also like to highlight the growth of the Idaho State University Community Psychiatric Center (CPC), established in July 2024 and led by Dr. Daisha Orchard, a proud graduate of the inaugural class of the Idaho Rural Track. As the CPC continues to expand to meet community needs, it will become the central hub for longitudinal outpatient psychiatric training.
Southeastern Idaho is a beautiful region with stunning national parks, diverse landscapes, and breathtaking natural beauty. You’ll be based in Pocatello, Idaho, a charming midsize city offering its own distinctive amenities: a vibrant university, a picturesque historic downtown, and a renowned reputation as a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts. We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of Idaho Rural Track recruits and support you in your work to transform these communities!
