"Hi! I am so excited you are interested in the University of Utah's General Psychiatry Rural Idaho Track. I’m originally from a rural Idaho town and feel fortunate to be a part of the inaugural class. This program was created to help train residents who want to focus their practice on serving in rural or minimal access areas. The first two years are spent in Salt Lake City, UT. There resident have the opportunity to train in an academic setting and establish a broad foundation of psychiatry, medicine, and neurology. The final two years are spent in Pocatello, ID working primarily in outpatient settings While in Pocatello, my training has been supervised by excellent psychiatrists and psychologists in person and remotely. I have support from the University of Utah’s General Psychiatry Residency Program, as well as support from Idaho State University’s Family Medicine Residency who we work closely with. While in Pocatello I have had the chance to do elective rotations providing medical student psychotherapy for students in Utah and working with college students and athletes at Idaho State University’s Student Health Center. Other residents have had the opportunity to work at Indian Health Services, the Idaho State Hospital, private practice, a local high risk teen assessment center, and many more locations. As a new program, we can create rotations tailored specifically to resident interest and community need. Southeastern Idaho is a beautiful place to live with many outdoor activities, and Pocatello has a great community who have welcomed the psychiatry residents with open arms. Please feel free reach out with any additional questions you may have!"
