Why Utah?
I chose Utah Psychiatry for a few reasons. First, it was by far my favorite interview. Everyone was extremely kind, open with their thoughts about the strengths (and few and far between weaknesses) of the program and had all around excellent vibes. Second, was the location of the program. Being from the west side of Michigan I really love the outdoors. My wife on the other hand, is a city girl through and through. Salt Lake City offers an incredible combination of being big enough and artsy enough to have all the shopping, good restaurants, and plays/shows that my wife wanted and being located within minutes of the most beautiful hiking, fishing, and cycling I've ever seen. It is a truly incredible place to live. And finally, the program offered everything I wanted in terms of neuromodulation exposure and research. With a catchment area of multiple states and copious resources, the University of Utah psychiatry program allows you to treat and see a multitude of psychopathologies with cutting edge, evidence-based modalities.
