Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic
The Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic provides subspecialty outpatient services for adults ages 60 and older with mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, adjustment disorders, addiction, cognitive impairment, and dementia. These conditions often involve interactions with coexisting medical issues.
Our Mission
The mission of our clinic is to increase access to specialized mental health services and raise awareness and understanding of the unique mental health needs of older adults.
What We Do
Our geriatric psychiatry team offers diagnostic evaluation, consultation, treatment, education, and support for patients with new and ongoing mental health issues. We conduct a thorough intake assessment for all new patients to better understand the contribution of biological, psychological, and social factors that can affect mental health. For this reason, we often request input from family, loved ones, and/or caregivers to help put together as complete a picture as possible in order to develop a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan. Treatment plans may include any combination of psychotropic medications, psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and psychosocial modalities.
Who We Are
The clinic is staffed by an inter-professional team consisting of geriatric psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, psychiatry residents, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other health professional trainees. As part of a larger academic institution, our clinic is proudly a teaching site for the next generation of mental health care professionals. Psychiatry residents and health care professional trainees assist with providing care while gaining exposure to the unique psychiatric and psychosocial issues of older adults.
Our Supporters
This clinic could not have been established without the generous gift from our donors who recognize the importance of optimal mental health in later life and the expanding mental health needs of the aging population in our community. Our sincerest thanks to our donors and collaborators.
